Russian State Symphony Orchestra, Center College

November 7, 2014 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The Russian State Symphony Orchestra is at Newlin Hall in the Norton Center for the Arts on November 7, 2014.

“The Russian State Symphony Orchestra, known in Russia as the State Symphony Capella of Russia, was established in 1991. Its founding followed a merge of the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR Ministry of Culture and the USSR State Chamber Choir.  Under the direction of Music Director Valeri Polyansky, the RSSO is now most known for its strict discipline of the ensemble, the warmth of its timbre, and excellent balance between sections, as well as the subtlety of nuance evident in its performances.  In their Central-Kentucky debut, the Orchestra will be joined by one of the most versatile musicians of our time: pianist Vladimir Feltsman, who has performed at Carnegie Hall and The White House and worked with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Moscow Philharmonic.  The program includes: Tchaikovsky’s Slavonic March, Op. 3; Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18; and Prokofieff’s Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, Op. 100.”
