Keep Lexington Beautiful!
Volunteer to coordinate a Great American Cleanup event

Know of an area in your neighborhood that could use some TLC and want to help improve Lexington’s environment? If so, consider coordinating a Great American Cleanup event.

Through the Great American Cleanup, Keep Lexington Beautiful encourages organizations, churches, schools, businesses, clubs, and individuals to pick up litter in a neighborhood, park, greenway or stream.

Last year, Lexington residents:

  • Took part in 112 cleanup and beautification events
  • Contributed 2,243 volunteer hours at GAC events
  • Collected more than 54 tons of litter and debris

“Cleanups are a great opportunity to beautify our community,” says Susan Plueger, director of the city’s Division of Environmental Services.

Groups that register an event will receive supplies and support. Keep Lexington Beautiful, the local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, will provide bags and gloves. A leaf blower, a trimmer, shovels, rakes and buckets are also available to check out. If needed, the city will arrange for proper disposal of collected material.

You can register a Great American Cleanup at LexingtonKY.gov/GAC or keeplexingtonbeautiful.com. Questions can be directed to Louise Caldwell-Edmonds at (859)425-2804 or louisec@lexingtonky. gov.
