What’s Happening for Martin Luther King Jr Day in Lexington, 2016

MLK DAY AT A GLANCE for Lexington KY

MLK March _ Martin Luther King Jr Parade _ MLK Parade 2011MLK Day 2016 in Lexington begins with the Annual Unity Breakfast at 6:30 am at the Lexington Convention Center. The purpose of the Unity breakfast is to commemorate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his ideals for peace and unity.

The Unity Breakfast is followed by the annual Freedom March in downtown Lexington at 10 am.

The March is followed by an address by this year’s keynote speaker, Danny Glover, at Heritage Hall at 11 a.m.

One World Film Festival presents a special showing of Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom at 2:30 pm at the Kentucky Theatre. The film is based on South African President Nelson Mandela’s autobiography of the same name, which chronicles his early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison before becoming President and working to rebuild the country’s once segregated society. Idris Elba stars.

Transy will host a  MLK Day Community Gathering  at 6:30 at the campus center gym.
