Prospective Ace Interns: Must Love Memes

As Ace will celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2014, we are staffing up for this massive undertaking and will be hiring several PT/freelancers/contractors on a seasonal basis throughout the next year.

INTERNSHIPS

Ace multimedia, multidisciplinary internships begin January 2 for 2014.

Although each internship has a Focus (design, editorial, web/digital, and marketing/advertising/promotional), all internships are multidisciplinary and may include but are not limited to: fact checking; research; posting web content and photos; archiving; layout and design; reporting; assembling and writing listings; reviews; live blogging; photography; transcribing; and both print and web production.

Read more details here about how to apply. Please include the name of your prospective faculty advisor when you provide.

GRAPHIC DESIGN/PRODUCTION COORDINATOR

We have an immediate opening for an independent freelancer as a  graphic design/production coordinator. This is a gig, not a position, and only requires about three days per month of setting up and flowing pages, along with building a few ads. Templates are all in place.  Three to five years InDesign experience a must. WordPress proficiency preferred.

EDITORIAL/DIGITAL ASSISTANT
We are now interviewing for a freelance Editorial Intern/Digital Assistant. An obsessive interest in Lexington’s local arts, culture, and entertainment is required, along with a flair for communicating all that information to the masses. Combine those with a passion for writing about food, music, theatre, art, bourbon, and craft beer and you might be the renaissance student we’re looking for. It’s not all freelance and glamour: hours of bone-grinding tedium compiling and entering local Lexington calendar info is also part of this gig. That’s followed by proofreading, copy editing, and mind-numbing email list management. The successful candidate should be making substantial progress in journalism, communications, English, design, applied media, or related field AND have a rave faculty and professional reference at the ready. WordPress proficiency is a must; InDesign competency a huge plus. Geek tendencies required; no Luddites. Social media addicts are especially encouraged to apply. Compensation is barely a pittance, but the perks are steep.  (Faculty recommendation and approved oversight is required to submit internship for class credit.)
Openings for the sharpest, most stylish freelance beat writers/reporters in: food news, business news, and home and garden features and reporting. Send us a well-crafted pitch on an achingly local, compelling, specific story the Ace readers can get involved with — how does it relate to what they can go/see/do in the next eight days.To be considered, submit a cover letter outlining your prospective contributions to the best editorial crew in Lexington; a clip or two that shows off your writing chops; your resume; and the name/department of your professional or practical reference.
ADVERTISING
Finally, we have openings for one ad rep and one senior sales manager, specifically to coordinate 25th anniversary programming and products along with the annual Best of Lexington special editions.
