[three_fifth]

Welcome to this week’s Ace Picks for Lexington, Kentucky — Ace’s highly curated and selective to do list for the next eight days in the bluegrass (also delivered to your inbox every Thursday morning via the Ace e-dition click here to subscribe.)

THURSDAY DECEMBER 6, 2012

Click through for Ace’s full calendar of events.

Everybody loves a parade? Lexington’s annual Christmas Parade has always been a weekend affair, but this year relocates to a Thursday evening (just in time for… rush hour?) We’ll see.

Love old movies? While you’re downtown, take in the 1926 movie Sparrows at the Kentucky Theatre, with an author introduction and book signing by Christel Schmidt.

Still feeling nostalgic? BCTC’s Theatre program and Tim X Davis will present It’s a Wonderful Life.

Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas ExtravaganzaFRIDAY DECEMBER 7, 2012

Tonight the Brian Setzer Orchestra is in town to perform their Christmas Rocks! Extravaganza at the Singletary Center. Ace’s own Kakie Urch even wrote a preview about it.

And if it’s December, you know there’s a Handel’s Messiah and a Nutcracker going on somewhere.

SATURDAY DECEMBER 8, 2012

What time is the UK game? There’s no planning a Saturday without that.

Run, run Rudolph? Time for the annual 5k Reindeer Ramble.

Love Lexington’s Rollergirls? Check out their Holiday Shopping Bazaar at the Bread Box (the West Sixth building).

Later in the evening, Lexington’s Coralee and the Townies will be at Willie’s, along with Bethesda

SUNDAY DECEMBER 9, 2012

This afternoon is Lexington Philharmonic’s popular annual Candy Cane concert.

Also this afternoon, the Wild Fig bookstore will host a poetry reading. Celebration of Song is down at Victorian Square, and for the kids: Aesop’s Fables at Lexington Children’s Theatre.

What Made Milwaukee Famous? These guys. And they are playing tonight at Cosmic Charlie’s.

MONDAY DECEMBER 10, 2012

It’s the tenth anniversary of the OUTSIDE the Spotlight series. Celebrate with WRFL at Mecca.

TUESDAY DECEMBER 11, 2012

Join the UK prez Eli Capilouto for the lighting of the Menorah at Joseph-Beth. Downtown, Robert Cray plays the Kentucky Theatre as part of the Troubadour Concert Series.

WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 12, 2012

It’s 12.12.12! Set your phone alarms for Noon and Midnight; aim your cameras; and participate in Ace’s 12.12.12 project (the Ace Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen project will all be included in Ace’s upcoming 25th anniversary programming, so you don’t want to be left out)!

A toast to author Fred Noe as he signs his book Beam, Straight Up, the first book written about the Beam family of bourbon fame, at Joseph-Beth.

THURSDAY DECEMBER 13, 2012

Have a love for history, the movie Lincoln, with a dash of Oprah? Lexington’s Mary Todd Lincoln house hosts “Mrs. Lincoln’s favorite things” tour.

Bourbon Women will be sponsoring a tasting at Liquor Barn.

There’s Live Jazz at the Library.

And beloved This Year’s Model alum, Jim Embry, will make a presentation this evening about his recent Terra Madre trip to Italy.

Ace Picks and calendar recommendations for Lexington are compiled from the Ace Calendar Lexington, KY calendar by Mic Hardman, with Chris Snider. Click to submit.
