‘Old Friends’
Chrisman Mill Vineyards and Winery
has created a new wine label series to help
raise money for the Old Friends thorough-
bred retirement farm. The Old Friends label
will be launched Thursday, March 15th at the
Liquor Barns located in Lexington and
Louisville. In celebration of this release, there
will be a Wine Tasting on Saturday, at Liquor
Barn, Hamburg location from 4pm to 8pm.
“Old Friend is a wonderful organization
that rescues and cares for retired racehorses,"
said Denise Nelson owner of Chrisman Mill.
“We wanted to do something to help them
raise funds, so we created a Old Friends
series of labels to tell the story of the organi-
zation." This ongoing promotion will feature
new labels of horses and artists four times a
year to generate funds for the Old Friends
thoroughbred retirement farm.
Old Friends began as a retirement and
rescue facility for pensioned Thoroughbreds,
but the death of Ferdinand in a slaughter-
house in Japan in 2002 spurred Old Friends’
focus on the at risk racehorses. Old Friends
now focuses on rescuing horses whose racing
and breeding careers had come to an end, and
provide them with a dignified retirement.
Old Friends is located on US 62 south of
Georgetown. Visitors are welcome to the
farm to visit the twenty-four retired athletes
currently in residence.
