This Friday during Lexington Gallery Hop, Institute 193 will be hosting an opening reception of Photographing Thomas Merton, an exhibition of portraits of Merton by Ralph Eugene Meatyard. During their brief friendship, which was cut short by Merton’s untimely death in 1968, Merton and Meatyard held intense conversations, exchanged letters, and Merton became the subject for a series of photographs by Meatyard, the focus of our exhibition. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Center for Interfaith Relations and is sponsored in part by Lexington’s Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
