Lecture: Bale Boone Symposium, Singletary Center

The UK Gaines Center for the Humanities presents the 2015 Bale Boone Symposium: “Legacies of the American Civil War.”

“The Incomplete Civil War,” by Ed Ayers, President, University of Richmond on February 4 at 7 pm at the Singletary Center Recital Hall

Other lectures include:

“Variation on the Word Dixie: Civil War Cultural Memory and a Song of the South,” by Coleman Hutchinson, Department of English, UT-Austin on February 10 at 7 pm in the W. T. Young Library Auditorium

“When Did the American Civil War End? Legacies in Our Own Time,” by David Blight, Department of History, Yale University, on February 12 at 7 pm at the Hilary J. Boone Center

Through the Bale Boone Symposium, the Gaines Center promotes dialogue, intellectual exploration, and partnerships among campus, Bluegrass, and Commonwealth communities by sponsoring an array of public humanities and arts events. These events are a testament to the influence and memory of Joy Bale Boone and George Street Boone, who were committed to the betterment of the humanities. The Bale Boone Symposium is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
