Charles Young Community Center Grand Re-Opening

The Charles Young Community Center, 540 East Third St., will celebrate its Grand Re-Opening from 1-6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20.
A full program is planned for the re-opening with informal tours and light refreshments from 1-3 p.m.; the official program from 3-4:30 p.m., followed by a reception from 4:30-6 p.m.
The center has been closed since July 2008.
Built in the mid-1930s, the Charles Young Community Center was the first, dedicated indoor community facility for African Americans in Lexington.
The center was named in honor of Kentucky native, Colonel Charles Young. Buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Young was the first African American to reach the rank of Colonel.
