In 2008, 2009, and 2010 the Lexington Side by Side was voted “Best Exhibition of the Year” by Ace Weekly readers.
The Side by Side Program was created by VSA Kentucky over 12 years ago as a way to provide hands-on, inclusionary arts experiences and learning for school age children of all abilities in communities across Kentucky.  Each Side by Side site involves a four to six week studio class in visual arts, music or film taught by VSA Kentucky approved teaching artists.  At the end of the class series, each young artist is paired up with a professional community artist to create a collaborative work or performance, culminating in a public exhibition or production.
