E.K. Huckaby: Department of Dysiatrics
Opening reception: January 12, 6-9 PM
Institute 193 presents “Department of Dysiatrics,” a solo exhibition of paintings by the Atlanta-based artist E.K. Huckaby. The Department of Dysiatrics is a phrase coined by the artist that refers to the treatment of mistakes.
Huckaby’s paintings and assemblages depict imagery gleaned from out-of-print textbooks, anatomy manuals, found photographs, and other sources. Huckaby creates his own paints, pigments, and glazes.
Born in 1957, Huckaby’s art career spans three decades. His work is included in the collections of the High Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia. This will be his first exhibition in Kentucky.
“Department of Dysiatrics” will be on view at Institute 193, 193 N. Limestone St., Lexington, KY through February 9.
