Just A Reminder

Run, Run

Earlier this week, Lexington’s first candidate for the 2006 mayoral race—attorney and former failed congressional candidate, Jim Newberry—threw his hat in the ring by filing papers that will allow him to begin raising campaign funds.

In other news, neither Jim Gray nor Alan Stein have filed for the 2006 race. Mayor Isaac is expected to seek re-election.

Labor Day Issues

There will be a “No Room for Poverty” picnic and rally, noon to 3pm, Friday, September 3, at Douglass Park on Georgetown Street, hosted by the Living Wage campaign.

September is National Al-cohol and Drug Addiction Recovery month. Bluegrass Advocates for Recovery is sponsoring a Recovery Fest 1pm to 4pm, Saturday, September 4, downtown at Triangle Park.

Holiday Spirit? ALREADY?

God’s Pantry is now accepting referrals for Thanksgiving baskets for families in need, through Monday, September 20. You must contact agencies such as the Hope Center or Salvation Army to receive a referral.

Ace’s annual non-profit/charitable Wish List issue also goes on stands Thanksgiving weekend (November 24).

Agencies/charities/non-profits in need should submit their wish lists (for specific supplies and specific volunteer needs) and photos to Ace by Halloween.

Steer Clear

One lane of S. Limestone St. will be blocked from S. Upper St. to Euclid Ave. thru September 7, to install a steam/utility tunnel and water line.

Two lanes of S. Limestone St. will be closed from Virginia Ave. to Leader Ave. thru Friday, September 10. There will be a modified blockage from 9pm to 6am every weekday night for pedway bridge construction. Detours will be in place.
