Eating Out for Valentine’s Day?

Alfalfa’s will be open for dinner Saturday night and Sunday for a Valentine’s brunch, but will be closed on Sunday evening.

Unfortunately, Azur is currently booked full for both Saturday and Sunday.

Brasabana, a member of the Azur Food Group and featuring Cuban cuisine with a Caribbean flair, offers a special 3-course Valentine’s menu including tamarind peach glazed short ribs, chino latino chicken, and lobster forbidden rice. There will also be appetizers and three desserts to choose from: strawberry mousse, spiced ginger pie, and red velvet tea cakes.

Bronte’s Bistro will offer a prix-fixe Valentine’s menu from Feb 12-14 with optional wine pairings. Entree’s include smothered chicken breast, peppercorn crusted sirloin, and broccoli farfalle alfredo. There will be strawberry cheesecake and tiramisu for dessert.

Buffalo Trace hosts Buffalo Love, a Valentine’s Day dinner featuring their award-winning bourbons on Feb 13. Optional tour at 6 pm. The dinner starts at 7 pm. For reservations call 502.696.5930.

Coba Cocina will offer a special menu including blackened fried oysters and mesquite-smoked beef fajitas (among other options) and a chocolate pie for dessert.

Holly Hill Inn in Midway will hosts its annual Aphrodisiacs seven-course dinner on Feb 14. They also a serve Sweetheart Brunch 11 am – 2 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Stella’s on 143 Jefferson Street offers Valentine’s Dinner on Saturday and Sunday. First love: artichoke fritters or Kentucky Italian sausage. Second base: shrimp bisque and kale salad. Consummation: trout almondine, beef cumberland, or truffled mushroom risotto. Sweet embrace: raspberry mousse, blondie a la mode, or lemon ice box pie.

West Sixth hosts Valentine’s Day in the Taproom on Feb 13. Plate for 2 from Smithtown, “Box of Chocolates” flights, and 10% of Cocoa Porter sales go toward the Pay it Forward Program.

Wild Thyme Cooking School presents a bacon lovers workshop on Saturday, Feb 13, a date night romantic dinner for two on Saturday night, and a Valentine’s Day brunch on Sudnay.

Winchell’s Valentine menu will include wine special on Feb 12-14. There will also be fried oysters, brie and berry salad, beef tenderlon tips with crab meat and bearnaise, and fresh sea scallops. Red velvet cake and tiramisu for dessert.

Windy Corner Market has dinner specials for Valentine’s Day, including 2 for 1, wine specials, special appetizers, and entrees including ribeye.

Valentine’s Events in Lexington

Valentine’s Bubbly (and paired nibbles) at Wine+Market on Feb 10 at 6 pm. There will be discussion and tastings of the major styles of sparkling wine: Cava, Prosecco, Lambrusco, Crement, and, of course, Champagne. Each version of bubbly will be served with a specifically prepared nibble.

Good Foods Co-op hosts a chocolate sampling event from 5 to 7 pm on Feb 11. Samples include organic vanilla ice cream served with Kentucky Proud Bourbon Chocolatier Sauce and other treats like chocolate-dipped bacon.

The UK Singletary Center is home to a Jazzy Valentine Concert on Feb 11 at 7:30 pm.

Feb 11 – 13, there will be a celebration of foods of love in four-course and seven-course menus at the Holly Hill Inn. Then, in Honor of Valentine’s Day weekend, the Holly Hill Inn hosts its annual Aphrodisiacs seven-course dinner on Feb 14. They also a serve Sweetheart Brunch 11 am – 2 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Wallace Station, Windy Corner Market, and Smithtown Seafood will all have lunch and dinner specials over Valentine’s Day Weekend. Glenn’s Creek Catering at Woodford Reserve Distillery will serve a Valentine’s dinner February 12 – 13 as well. Additionally, Midway Bakery has Valentine’s sweets available all weekend.

Equus Run Vineyard in Midway hosts Kisses & Calories on Feb 13 from 12 – 5 pm. The chocaholic fest will include chocolate and wine pairings, chocolate hors d’oeuvres.

All-male vocal ensemble Cantus presents The Four Loves at Centre College’s Norton Center for the Arts at 8 pm on Feb 13. The performance explores love as artistic expression from four perspectives: romantic, familial, friendly, and unconditional. Includes music by Poulenc, Grieg, Beethoven, and Bobby McFerrin.

On Feb 13, the Transy Choral Ensembles’ Cabaret delivers a special Valentine’s weekend performance at 7:30 pm in Transy’s Haggin Auditorium.

The Lexington Ballet presents Romeo + Juliet at the Lexington Opera House on Saturday, Feb 13 at 8 pm and Sunday, Feb 14 at 2 pm.

Spend a romantic evening in the Eastern Kentucky foothills at Carter Caves’ Valentine’s Dinner Theatre night: Feb 13 and 14 at 7 pm. There will be a buffet style dinner, followed by a special performance and overnight stay in the Lewis Caveland Lodge.

The Valentine’s Getaway at Cumberland Falls is on Feb 13 – 14. The Saturday night package includes a lodge room, dinner, and a show for two: an interactive mystery theatre by Fantastical Theatricals. Breakfast the next day is also included.

No date for Valentine’s Day? No problem. Black Hearts at HopCat: HopCat and special guests West Sixth turn the tables on Feb 16, and present a variety of dark and decadent beers. Come alone, but bring a date if you must, and enjoy the festivities.

Waveland is kicking off the 2016 Tea Tuesday with a special Valentine’s High Tea and Low Tea on Tuesday, Feb 16. Low team will be served at 1 pm and high tea at 6:30 pm. All teas served by period dressed interpreters and include savory food. Call to schedule at 859.272.3611.

The Campbell House at 1375 South Broadway offers the Valentine’s Dinner: Spend the special holiday with your someone special at The Campbell House Lexington and receive deluxe overnight accommodations, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries made in-house delivered to your room, breakfast the following morning and a late checkout. Dine in Kilbern’s Restaurant for Valentine’s Dinner and receive a 20 percent discount. The Campbell House also offers the Romance Package: deluxe accommodations, a complimentary bottle of champagne and strawberries dipped in chocolate delivered to your room, breakfast at Kilbern’s Restaurant and a late checkout of 2  pm.

Clarion Hotel at 1950 Newtown Pike offers Cupid’s Creation: Includes a hot breakfast for two plus dinner for 2 in Cortland’s Restaurant (not including alcohol or gratuity-room service optional) and champagne plus strawberries or seasonal fruit.

Doubletree Guest Suites at 2601 Richmond Road presents the Honeymoon Package, including champagne with keepsake glasses, chocolates, and a bubble bath and breakfast for two. In addition, Doubletree offers the Sweet Romance Package, which includes a bottle of sparkling wine, breakfast for two, and late checkout.

Griffin Gate Marriott at 1800 Newtown Pike features the Couples Romance Package. Play tennis or golf and relax by the indoor or outdoor pool and hot tub. Includes deluxe overnight accommodations for two, Friday or Saturday night, champagne upon arrival, and breakfast for two.

Hilton Suites Lexington at 245 Lexington Green Cir have bed & breakfast packages  including special touches like complimentary sparkling wine or cider, and breakfast for two in the room or in the hotel restaurant.

Hyatt Regency at 401 West High Street offers the Amour package, which includes a steak and egg breakfast for two throw room service or in the Blue Fire Grille and a bottle of champagne.

Lyndon House Bed & Breakfast at 507 North Broadway offers A Classic Romance – “Breakfast in Bed.” The package includes overnight accommodations for one night with a bouquet of flowers, champagne, dinner at a nearby restaurant with a $100 gift certificate. The next morning, the Innkeeper may prepare a breakfast tray for you to take to your room. Lyndon House also offers the Two Night Honeymoon Package. There are three different options, and all of them include red roses and a bottle of bubbly.  The Radio Show package includes tickets for a live taping of WoodSongs Old Time Radio Hour and a dinner at Natasha’s. The Historic Places package includes a pass to four historic homes and dinner at Dudley’s. The Equestrian package includes a horse farm tour and dinner at Jonathan’s.

Valentine’s Day Desserts

European Delights Gourmet Bakery at Brannon Crossing will have meringue cups, hazelnut meringue cookies, chocolate-covered strawberries, and red velvet cake pops.

La Petite Delicat on 445 South Ashland will have macaroons in a variety of flavors, including red velvet and chocolate raspberry.

Magee’s Bakery on 726 E Main Street offers Valentine-themed cookies and cupcakes.

Old Kentucky Chocolates on 450 Southland Drive will offer chocolate-dipped strawberries and grapes as well as Valentine’s novelties. Call 859-278-4444.

Sunrise Bakery on 111 W Main Street will have heart-shaped cookies with personalized messages available, as well as red velvet cake, brownies, and more.
