RUN FOR IT!

Refuse to just lie by the pool all summer? Here’s a sampling of area runs in the bluegrass, including everything from 5 and 10ks to fun runs to mudders and marathons and zombie runs.

Horsin’ Around Cross Country 5K

5k runDead Zombie Run
June 7, Danville KY
Runners will endure a 5K run through a zombie-infested course. Test your speed, endurance, and strength while trying to avoid ravenous zombies. Proceeds benefit Alzheimer’s research and cancer research.

Survive the Night Triathlon Relay
June 12 at 7 pm
Starting at Spindletop Hall, heading to Kentucky Horse Park.
Teams will embark on a full distance triathlon relay. The race will begin as a 4000m swim in the Spindletop Hall lap pool.  Runners will then head to the Kentucky Horse Park, where teams will complete 21 laps around a closed 5.2 mile cycling course, for a total of 109 miles.  Teams will then send runners along the 27.1 mile segmented route through thoroughbred country before finishing amongst the center of arena of the exercise and expo events at Spindletop Hall.

Bourbon Derby Half Marathon
June 13 in Paris KY 8 am
This half marathon is not run on Derby Day.
It includes a half marathon, 10-miler, 4-miler, and fastest kid races, and the course will include Bourbon County horse country.

Wild Hearts Fun Run Superhero 5K and Kids Super Sprint
June 13 at Keeneland
Chip-Timed 5K benefiting Kerrington’s Heart, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the education, support, and encouragement of children with heart disease, their families, and caregivers.

Great American Fitness Challenge
June 13 at Kentucky Horse Park
A Running and Obstacle Course series. These events are open to all fitness levels and participation. Walk the 5K, Run the 15K, push yourself in the Open Steeplechase or give it all you’ve got in the Elite version.
Open to the general public, the Great American Fitness Challenge is a running and endurance series comprised of four separate races and designed for all condition levels.

Run For Rue
June 14 at Keeneland
Run For Rue’s mission is to raise awareness for foster and adoption options here in the Commonwealth. Enjoy a family friendly three mile course with your friends and family.

United Way 5K On The Runway
June 20 at 8:30 am at Blue Grass Airport
Experience a fast and exciting course that will take you both on and off the runway on the grounds of the beautiful Blue Grass Airport. Enjoy entertainment at the finish line including music, concessions, activities for kids and more.

Rodeo Run 5k
June 20 9 am, Kentucky Horse Park

Fathers Day 5K For Prostate Cancer
June 21 at 2 pm at Coldstream Research Park
A chip timed, competitive 5K run. Walkers, strollers and dogs on leashes are welcome.

(un)Pleasant Hill Trail Run Series
June 27 at 8:30 am at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill

Registration fee includes a race t-shirt, admission to Shaker Village, overall and age-group prizes and refreshments.

The Kentucky Tough Mudder
June 27, Kentucky Speedway
Course details will not be released until two weeks before the event.

Run For The Hill 5K
June 28 at 4 pm at Keeneland
Benefits Cardinal Hill Adaptive Recreation.

Bluegrass 10,000
July 4, downtown Lexington
Online registration continues through June 26. Last chance registration is on July 3.
The crank and wheelchair divisions begin at 7:25 am. The 10k begins at 7:30 am, and the fun run begins at 8:15 am.

A Midsummer Night’s Run
August 8
8 pm, begins downtown

Morning Light 5k for Alzheimer’s
August 22
8 am, Lexington KY

CASA Superhero 5k/1k
September 12
8:30 am Lexington KY

Komen Race for the Cure
October 3
9 am, downtown Lexington

Iron Horse Half Marathon
October 11
8 am, Midway KY

The Bourbon Chase
October 16-17
A 200-mile relay through Kentucky bourbon and horse country.
