Five hundred Centre students participated in a campus lottery to snag tickets to tonight’s Vice Presidential Debate at the Norton Center in Danville Kentucky.

The  Commission on Presidential Debates made these tickets available to Centre, who then shared with the students. Centre President John Roush also announced, “30 students will be in the Debate Hall serving as ushers, so we are delighted that about 10 percent of our student body of 1,340 will be a part of history tonight on 10-11-12. ”

Lexington native Alex Gardner, Centre class of 2014, was one of the 100 Centre students selected to attend. He  is a Henry Clay graduate who’s double majoring in econ and government at Centre (he will travel to Strasbourg next semester as part of Centre’s study abroad program). He participated in the lottery, hoping to attend because, he says “the presidential and vice presidential debates are the purest form of the ideological debates held by our country. They are a snapshot of our country’s beliefs.”

Alex is the son of Lexington attorney and Centre Alum, Brian Gardner (class of 1981), and will be covering the Debate for aceweekly.com, as part of Ace’s Live Online coverage.
