Bottoms Up for National IPA DAY, August 2, 2012!

Prepare to celebrate: Thursday, August 2nd is National IPA Day. Historically, that would not always have meant much to those here in Lexington, Kentucky outside of the most hardcore of beer drinking fans, but things have changed for Lexington craft brew fans over the past year. Now, one of Lexington’s best known local beers is West Sixth Brewery’s IPA.

Admittedly, it’s a new holiday—this is only IPA Day’s second annual celebration (it hasn’t quite caught up to National Bourbon Day)—so Lexington isn’t too far behind in its craft beer commemorations. If you want to Think Local/Drink Local on National IPA Day, here a few options:

West Sixth Brewery — Already well known for their IPA (now on tap around Lexington and available in Cricket Press-designed-canned form), West Sixth could have used this fine national holiday to promote this IPA, yet they have brewed a special, new beer: “Second Fiddle Single Hop.” A single hop IPA brewed with Simcoe hop, West Sixth will have it on tap starting at 4pm on Thursday and running through the evening.

Lexington craft brew fans can think local/drink local at a variety of venues on National IPA day.

Lexington Beerworks — Located on North Limestone, Beerworks will be celebrating with a flight of the Mikkeller Single Hop Series. The only difference between the four beers they have selected is the hops which allows the taster to better learn the flavor profile of each variety. Join the fun between 5pm and 9pm this Thursday, August 2nd.

The Beer Trappe — Chevy Chase’s beer joint is joining the festivities by tapping a handful of IPAs including: Three Floyds Zombie Dust, Founders Devil Dancer, Goose Island IPA, Brooklyn Blast and a cask of Bell’s Two Hearted.

“But what if I want to celebrate at home?” you ask! Well, grab your IPA of choice — but you’ll need something special to mark a holiday as momentous as this, and that something special might just hop brownies. Yes, hop brownies.

P.S.

This Saturday August 4th, 2012 is the Drunk & Sailor Beer and Booty Trolley Tour 2012. The tour swings by (among other spots): Lexington Beerworks, Sidebar, Charlie Brown’s, and West Sixth Brewery.
